To enrich the lives of central Virginia’s youth and adults by facilitating equal access to technology as well as equal opportunity for technical literacy.

Goal

TechReach is committed to being a leader in improving the technology environment in central Virginia. Through volunteerism and donations, this organization will increase the availability of computer knowledge and resources for central Virginia’s citizens – particularly underprivileged youth and adults.

Objectives

• Prepare students to be successful in life by developing their knowledge of technology and improving their computer skills
• Provide underprivileged adults the tools to be a productive member of today’s technology oriented society
• Promote environmentally sound recycling of computers by re-using them instead of disposing of them
• Provide businesses with a highly skilled workforce
• Promote the advancement, nurture the environment and accommodate the functions of a thriving technology community in central Virginia
• Make the region a hotbed for technology innovation
• Facilitate universal Internet access for the area – particularly rural areas

How will we accomplish this?

TechReach is a 501(c)(3) non profit that accepts donations of old personal computer equipment. These computers are cleaned, refurbished and loaded with new software. They are then supplied to deserving students and adults who are unable to purchase a home PC due to economic reasons. This is about getting technology in the hands of those who otherwise wouldn’t have access to it. TechReach also partners with local school systems to develop technology curriculums that are more closely aligned to the needs of the business community by providing guidance regarding computer skills that are desired in the marketplace. Students are engaged through internships, mentors and working in the TechReach lab.
